Verla E. McKinney

Verla E. McKinney, 89, of Front Street, West Union, W.Va. passed away August 9, 2008 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born December 16, 1918 in Parsons, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clemma Irvin “C.I.” and Mary Ellen Lemasters Elder. On July 26, 1941 she married Lauren McKinney who preceded her in death on November 10, 1987. Mrs. McKinney was a graduate of West Union High School and the West Virginia Business College. She was retired from the First National Bank of West Union as a teller with 35 years of service. She was a member of the West Union Christian Church, the West Union Business and Professional Women and the Doddridge County Senior Citizens where she enjoyed playing cards. Surviving is one daughter, Sandy McKinney, of Vienna, W.Va.; one son, John McKinney and his wife, Cheryl, of Glenville, W.Va.; one brother, Edgar B. Elder and wife, Marion, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Garnet McKinney of Warren, Ohio; one step-brother, Don Ash and wife, Roma, of Sistersville, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Vada Haun; a twin brother, Ronald Elder; step-mother, Laura Elder; and step-brother, Stanley Ash. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front Street, West Union, W.Va. with Pastor Tom Waters officiating. Interment will follow in the Freeman Cemetery, Rt. 18 North, Crystal Lake. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
