Pauline Zeigler

October 8, 1922 - July 28, 2015

Pauline "Ziggy" McCauley Zeigler, 92, formerly of West Union went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Hopedale, Ohio of natural causes. She was born in Burnsville, Braxton County on October 8, 1922 a daughter of the late John and Margaret Donaldson McCauley. She graduated from Burnsville High School, Class of '41. She was married in 1947 to the late Reverend Joseph "Joe" Zeigler until his time of death in 1987. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, stepson, Robert "Bobby" Zeigler, three brothers, Alfred, Lynn and Leland McCauley and two sisters, Gladine Zende and Lorene Ellis. Pauline was known by several nicknames, Ziggy, Zigg, Aunt Polly, Aunt Freddie and even Grandma although she never was one. She had many careers throughout her life, serving as a pastor's wife, Doddridge County Community Educational Outreach Service, owned and operated the Z&Z Florist in New Matamoras, Ohio, Park tours Bus Guide, Doddridge County Deputy sheriff, Spurgeon Funeral Home, and a caregiver as a graduate of the first Nursing Assistant Class from Mountain State college of Parkersburg. Pauline loved to sing, performing in operettas as a child, as a member of the All State Chorus in High School, the Jubilant trio and church choirs. She enjoyed entertaining many by performing her clown ministry. She tied for the 1993 Ms. WV Senior Pageant being crowned first runner-up after a coin toss and was the 1994 Belle of Doddridge County. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and served as President and Treasurer of the United Methodist Women, Treasurer of the Doddridge county United Methodist Parish, President and Treasurer of the United Methodist Ministers' Spouses. Weston District Lay Speaker, President and Treasurer of the Senior Citizen Center Activities Club. She was a member of the Night Owls, OES West Union Chapter 56, Doddridge County Medical Center Board of Directors and the Doddridge County Humane Society Board of directors. She worked on election boards and served ten years in the West Virginia Silver Haired Legislature in Charleston. She will be sadly missed by her friends and four generations of nieces and nephews. She loved living her life to the fullest, always giving God the glory for the blessings He bestowed upon her. Funeral services will be conducted in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Church St. West Union, on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 1:00PM with Pastor David McCauley, Pastor Don Newlon and Father Timothy Huffman officiating. Mrs. Zeigler will lie in state one hour prior to her service. Interment will follow in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8PM in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, 212 Front St., West Union. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice, the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, of West Union, or the Doddridge County Humane Society.
